Remember when we went for a swim? You didn’t want to get in, when we went for a swim. I said “You just gotta get your head wet. No regrets. Just get your head wet.” And remember when we both took a dive.. We felt so alive, when we both took a dive. And in the end you didn’t want to get out, you were swimming about, yeah we went for a swim. Remember when we went for a walk? We had a long talk, when we went for a walk. I said “You’re the strangest person I’ve ever met. No offence, but you’re the strangest I’ve met.” And remember when we went into battle. Oh, we were rattled, when we fought that battle. But we emerged victoriously, ran into the sea, and went for a swim. Come on let’s swim. Oh babe I wish I hadn’t sent you away, on this rainy day, why’d I send you away? Cause even though the weather’s too bad to swim, we could stay in. Oh baby let’s stay in.

Maybe I overstayed my stay but can’t you look the other way I don’t expect you’ll understand, there is supply, I have demands. Worried about the over-fishing, glitching towards oblivion, levelling up towards a conclusion of sorts. But like I care what you all think maybe I’ll have another drink I have the fire I have the sink it’s all about perspective. But then it became a thing - I never felt that sting. It became a thing - I always thought that I’d be king. It became a thing. I can talk, talk is cheap just marking time falling asleep, I’m just bareing the device, it’s alright, don’t think twice. But here’s something that you should know well I just played a hundred shows and they weren’t packed but I still attacked, Torquemada, G.I. Joe. But then it became a thing.

The golden age of smoking, oh my God, I always thought that you were only joking. The golden age of smoking oh my God, I never thought that you were only joking. The golden age of smoking. Marlon Brando Marcia Brady Bora Horza My Fair Lady. Black Francis & Kim Deal, Heidi Klum & Seal. Cindy Crawford, Richard Gere: I’m fretting about my feed, an even consistency. The people of the roundabout just wanna let it all hang out. The golden age of smoking.

Ways of being, somehow impervious to irony The I is seeing, no-longer malleable to chivalry The tyres are singing on the broken bits of bitumen The clouds are bringing a dearth of mental acumen Somehow stuck, movement involuntary Out of luck, potent idiosyncrasy Read the riot act, and it didn’t ring untrue Hypochondriac, what’s this insolent to do. Looking down onto the green grass from a plane that is now yawing. I am yawning in the clouds, I am ignoring all the warnings. Looking down upon the rubble I am drifting and descending. There’s a meaning I am bending. Neurons firing in all the wrong directions. Now all the bets are off, just not making the connections. Ways of being somehow impervious to irony. The I is seeing, gently shrugging off its history.

Well I’ve been doing all the things that I like to do the most I’ve drunk till 3AM and been listening to my own stuff draining all the bottles without a backup plan, smiling staring out to sea (a suitcase in my hand) well I’m as malleable now as I was pliable then and the faults of my uncertainty have issued this regret but another new day dawns and I’m still throwing natural 20s and my past is far from permanent and my future is unsteady well you ain’t been good to me yet and you’re playing hard to forget and I dip myself in alcohol and you’re a lit cigarette and John decrees this is mank of the highest sinning order, fire disease well it climbs through the water, you ain’t been good to me yet.

Power 01:57
I live among the fractured nations and in-between the speed cameras I curse myself; I put a spell on you. Too many feature light, concertina nights, I could go on and on, and I probably will. I lived behind the railway station, not so much a destination as a way of life - I was younger then. Too many scratchy stills, and how can you be a writer?

De Rien 03:50
You’re staying in a lot more these days, you’re getting a bit crazed, waylaid with the malaise, but it means nothing - it means nothing. They’re taking your bread and your baby away and you’ve got nowhere to go, and you’ve got nowhere to stay but it’s nothing, it’s absolutely nothing. You might bash your head in a bingle you might have a partner or perhaps you are single but it means nothing - it’s really really nothing. The sun’s getting bigger and brighter, the sights and the sounds of the far east delight her, but it’s nothing, it’s nothing. You’re growing so tired of the discourse or you’re so full of remorse or you’re out on the golf course, it’s nothing. You’re kind of hung up on your childhood or you just want to git gud, try and be understood - nothing. You’re tired of living in this shithole in the summer it’s so hot, in the winter it’s so cold but it’s nothing. I saw you picking through those entrails getting hung up on the details staring at those chem-trails - but it means nothing. It’s absolutely nothing.

Burn Flags 03:24
Gas light King hit And my dedication is not up to scratch You’re just not into it Glass jaw Red raw And I can’t even get satisfaction out there on the dancefloor Black banned in the promised land And polite requests for parity Are shit-canned So burn flags.

I live in a town of drunkards and sailors and ne’er do wells Safe as houses What could go wrong? I live in a town of nogoodniks and ne’erdowells Safe as houses What could go wrong? It feels as though we might be too heavily invested in this reality Because we sold off the mythic plane. So we’re left with our party games. Nothing you say will change the world. Not a televised address or a flag unfurled. Trying to get to the bottom of things.

Enorme 04:09
I must feed my needs, you must avert your gaze from the mindless string of cliches there on the stage. Lingering panic in a minor key, predictable as a personality, engulfed, lost in the flames. I don’t want to deal with the end of the show, you say goodbye and I say no no no. I miss you so much but can you leave me alone, we hold each other in the pale blue glow. This limpid world is running out of gas and the captain regrets we have only seconds left. It’s a free association now, you’re welcome to stick around, just don’t move an inch or make any sound. I don’t want to deal with the end of the show, you say goodbye and I say no no no. I love you so much, can you leave me alone, we hold each other in the pale blue glow. So I must feed my needs I could go on for days with this mindless string of cliches laid bare on the page. Mystery surprise, do you realise? Such a sight for sore eyes, you and I. I don’t want to deal with the end of the show, you say goodbye and I say no no no. I love you so much, please don’t leave me alone, we hold each other in the pale blue glow.

Golden Axe 03:51
Crashing boredom & punishment, bodies thrashing around in the wet cement, we’re upgrading your experience. Pick me up from the airport at 10.30pm and we can come back home and begin again. One gesture is as good as another, well that’s been the story all along, how do you think I wrote this song? Crashing boredom and punishment, bodies thrashing around in the wet cement. We haven’t seen the worst of it. Sometimes the sadness overtakes me, something I see in a supermarket aisle just overwhelms me, like something’s trying to break me. Shouldn’t be so hard to keep the beast at bay, with take away every other night and a sleep-in every other day, and so many video games. Used to be so easy to stay on track, we’d ride our bikes to the blockbuster for VHS or Betamax.. And Golden Axe. Well I guess I must be getting old, lighting fires to keep the snakes at bay like Harrison Ford when he played Indiana Jones. I’m timid and I’m pale, but I’m delighted that we made it this far, it’s all philosophical - you’ve gotta play the cards you’re dealt, draw four and begin again.
