about

Semi regular operating procedure (although I have a lot of trouble sticking to a system as my old boss George DeCourcey always told me) is to sit at the typewriter for 45 minutes with something on the telly (sound down) possibly playing a record or possibly just listening to the people watch me while listening to Chris Townend’s choral piece in the void, adjacent, and type away stream of consciousness, see if it emulsifies or coalesces into something I can work with, then head over to the drums/mic whatever and start hitting/shouting. I seemed to have a bee in my bonnet about something this particular day. I think the title was inspired by a conversation I heard on Edge Radio’s “Skiddly Diddly Breakfast” program about all the weird and wonderful place names in Tasmania, including of course Nowhere Else which is up near Sheffield somewhere. Anyway.

lyrics

Nowhere else
On day twenty three that’s
Where I’d rather be
Nowhere else
From the side to the side
And up and down the walls
Nowhere else
On the TV
The birds and bee bees
I’m just repeating myself
No E
How the be the life of the party
1971
I’m trying to outwit this virus
You might understand or
Step around the corner
For a cheeky cheeky cheeky
Does it make you feel uncomfortable yeah?

N E
Trying to disprove the science
(of) Ultraviolence (SWAP)
Of a deft three piece
Underneath
They complete me
Harness that race driver
Flog him till he’s dead
Hang him by his head
And put a bullet in his chest
Nowhere else
Take a raincheck and a paycheque and a trainwreck and piece of
Wet
Tech

Nowhere else
Old hag old rag wet rag bad book you sook
Get around and get away get away get away

Put your hand inside the box
Burning
Burning

Swim out past the breakers
The girls on the avenue

Nowhere else
Meditating
Luxury

We’ll transgress the levels and the planes and then
Meet me back again
Crazy dreams of school friends
Crazy dreams of school friends
Nowhere else

Ziplock bags
I’m trying to outwit this virus
I asked Chris why he had not attended any of my shows
For twenty years
He seemed disappointed
I was disappointed
Heh heahhh
Nowheeeeere else
I realised it was a stupid question
ANd it was time to stop
