about

The title comes from a rather unsavoury reference in a sketch in the excellent comedy show “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson” that is repeated a lot around these parts but it’s not about that, it’s a nice song about being nice to yourself and forgiving yourself. I think. I stole some of the lyrics from an instant messaging conversation I had with an egg friend. Eggs, to completion - paging Doctor Freud. Whatever. The tempo is so horrendously whack cause like heaps of my songs I just start with a random drum beat and then layer stuff over the top and let the drums dictate the arrangement, that’s the key to commercial unsuccess. Dean Stevenson was horrified when I told him that yesterday. Beautiful violins and backing vocals by the beautiful Hannah Morrell who contributed to a bunch of songs on this set, we also recorded a whole convict song thing as well. She’s a bloody legend. Thanks Hannah.

lyrics

It’s a sort of
Martyr-like self negation
Coming from
A place of extreme frustration

And it’s a kind of
Curse you carry with you
And curse is the right word
I’ll just sit down for a spell

And somewhere there’s a list of authors
That I have never read
And here we go again

And you know
I should not have said that
Sometimes he makes me crazy
And I made it up the hill
And down the hill
And into bed

(and here we go again)

It’s a kind of martyr like self negation

And here we go again
And here we go again
And here we go again

You’re so wise and kind my friend

I’m in the, I’m in the sameregi - ster
I’m in the I’m in the same register

And I’m waiting
On a friend

Signposts and markers
Darker and darker

I can’t make out the words
Or is it that I can’t understand the language
Experimental
And maybe I’ve forgotten
There’s something rotten in me

You gotta run the demon out
You gotta run the demon out
Cause maybe I’d forgotten
There’s something rotten in me

And here we go again
You have to love yourself my friend
I think you have to love yourself
To completion
